Looking back to Move forward

“The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you can see” - Winston Churchill
There comes a time in a nation’s lifetime, when she is poised to soar to great heights of glory. With the way global circumstances have shaped up in the last decade and the steps India has taken to leverage it, it is evident that she is ready to take off.
The past decade brought India, joy through the great IT revolution, stupendous growth and swift emergence in the global stage. In the same decade, we also experienced fear through sporadic terrorist attacks and shame through CWG, 2G and Satyam scams. This makes us pause in our jubilation and reconsider the entire definition of growth in its truest sense. We know that the decisions we make today will play a crucial role on how the future generation will look upon us.
Once considered the land of the snake charmers, India has now become the chief exporter of Human Capital to the world. We have had our own success stories in the form of Infosys, Mahindra and Mahindra and Airtel; what remains to be seen is how soon we can come up with something in the scale of Apple, Facebook, Google or Microsoft.
As goes the myth about Janus, the Greek god of beginnings and transitions, we too need to have a watchful eye to the future, while never overlooking the past. We are moving into unchartered territories which might hold a world of limitless possibilities, but may be fraught with unpredictable dangers. Therefore, let us reminisce John F Kennedy’s golden words, “when written in Chinese, the word "crisis" is composed of two characters--one represents danger and the other represents opportunity”.
